And my personal favourite -
SIEVE HAT!

Style Me Betty

Wednesday 24 July 2013

In the midst of perhaps sometimes overpriced online vintage boutiques, lies an alluring swing coat lined cavern most certainly worth some serious decade hopping escapades.

The online vintage boutique niche leaves me captivated & winded in equal measure. Seemingly feeling like a fusion of mediocrity and genuinely exciting escapism and being able to decipher between treasure & trash becomes a whopping learning curve during teen years and even the term "vintage" is utterly lost in translation.

The amount of times I spill an entire day into ebay to find, in a vintage clothing section, pieces less than six months old from high streets stores such as Topshop & Urban Outfitters is getting a wee bit (A LOT) tedious over time.

With the market broadening & my patience being tested often, pickiness should be seen as a positive attribute in 2013 more than ever. In the words of Cher Horowitz "You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on my feet". Personally, the novelty "vintage" section of Urban Outfitters makes me shudder and come out in cold sweats.

As your may have noticed, the blog name has changed! The concept of conjuring up a whimsical character to front either a store name, magazing or blog title and a little
pzazz to proceedings, e.g Lucy In Disguise, Lula Magazine, Frankie Magazine, Betty Magazine, etc....

"The kind of girl you'd have a crush on. Or be intimidated by. Her style is all old-fashioned cameras, 70's dresses, patterned stockings, heavy mascara. She'd live in an apartment where the wallpaper is peeling off but it would be held lovingly by a litter of poems and polaroids. Her CDs would be all over the floor, but she'd know the name of every one"
- Lula Magazine

So in keeping, welcome to Tabitha's Got A Beehive!
Apologies for hiatus, Glastonbury, full-time work, flights & blogging are not the most tasty of mixes.

Also in keeping, a charming dab of nostaglia impressed with Denmark based Style Me Betty, especially upon their attention to detail in creating a spellbinding online shopping experience. With separate online sections for "The Backroom" & "The Lookbook", it's always going to make you blush with exclusivity. Best of all with the lookbook comes the mythical vintage gal pals currently outfits swoons. Meet -

These dashing souls put together outfits to fit their personality. Whether it be a myriad of my personal favouite look of Norma's, of a 1950's gold brocade dress which darts at the waist and held together with a elegant V back and long talon zipper, jewelled gold ring with blue rhinestones, 50's black and bowed leather Charmaise shoes, jazzy spherical 1950's "confetti" earrings & the piece de resistance, the 1950's De Pinna baby blue and brocade swing coat with gold embroidery and darling collar to do the 1950's silhouette a heap load of justice.

Gold Dress - €27.86, Ring - €9.66, Shoes €17.43, Earrings €16.66, Swing Coat €37.66 All At Style Me Betty

For me, Norma's ensemble encapsulates the more laidback attitude that was emerging in fashion post war. Couture was making revival alongside the introduction of mass-produced clothing and standardised sizes, leaps and jumps from the corset shrouded ladies of the early 1900. The swing coat comes across as very Jacques Fath-esqe, the couture magician who introduced silhouette defining tulle skirts and velvet evening gowns.

Amongst metallic lame 70s cocktail dresses, deep navy blue skirt suits, swedish cheerleader skirts, frilly powder blue bed jackets, rose rhinestone earrings, turtle shell slingbacks, 1950's pin curlers or faux grape draped Carmen Miranda-esqe headresses are some actually appropriate prices!

So here is Tabitha's ensemble purchased at Style Me Betty with her ration money, obviously.
